Continuing Spring Time Grounds Clean Up

  • Eastlawn Cemetery Company (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Spring Time clean up of the grounds continues! This will include but is not limited to weed maintenance, trees being trimmed in areas where there is low head clearance, installation of a new garden in section A, existing garden prep, filling in of any holes in and around the grounds and reseeding the grass where is has gone patchy. This will be a lengthy cleaning precess that will extend till after Easter, when the generalized warm weather ground maintenance starts up again.

A general reminder to please remove anything that you wish to keep that is holiday related, and if you are bringing a dog on the grounds to please clean up after them or if you see people walking their dogs please remind them to be considerate of others and to please pick up any dog waste.

If you are interested in having a headstone garden installed this year by the cemetery on your behalf please contact us at 610-566-4279 (call or text) or email at manager@eastlawn.org and I will send you a list of deer resistant perennials and self reseeding annuals and price list.

Start of Garden Installation Section D

  • Eastlawn Cemetery Company (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

We are installing the first of what we hope to be five gardens this spring starting in section D. We are hoping to encourage more beneficial native fauna to the grounds with native plantings.

We will be planting:

-Chokeberry bush: White flowers that turn to dark purple berries on green foliage that turn orange/red in the fall

-Pink Lemonade Blueberry bushes: Green leaves with Pink berries. Not the classic blueberry bush but eye catching none the less!

-Phlox: We will be planting 2 varieties this spring to attract butterflies and hummingbirds

-Bee Balm: 2 varieties will be planted, a pink variety known as raspberry wine and a classic purple variety known as Judiths fancy, to encourage the bees

-Blue Lobelia: Small blue flowers on vibrant green stems

-Butterfly Bush: Dark green leaves with dark purple flowers that are highly attractive to butterflies, as the name implies

- Pink Muhly Grass: This is a lovely ornamental grass that develops pink fluffy plumes near the end of summer.

As we install these gardens, we will be seeking donations to help with the install, and with the clearing of certain areas so we can continue beautifying the grounds going forward. If you would like to volunteer your time to help or if you would like to make a financial contribution, please either contact the cemetery directly, or go to our Donation page and either click that donation button or fill out the volunteer form.
